Looks fine so far

Strange. No route to the network 192.168.1.0, instead the route points 
directly to to the router. Dont know enough to comment more on this, but
looks strange to me. Did you set up the link as point-to-point? 

Can you try adding a route :

/sbin/route add -net 192.168.1.0 eth0
 
That's how I would have set it up.
