The blue bird of happiness is never far away, for that kind of info, look no further than http://www.tlug.gr.jp/craigoda/writings/linux-nihongo/ Now, you are experiencing trouble with the RPMs at linux.or.jp. My guess is that you are using the RPMs for libc5. If she's using RH 6.2, you'll want to use stuff for glibc2 and later. Usually, packages with RH60 prefix or something falls into this category. http://www.kondara.org/ may be a better source. They're all glibc2. With your needs, I would say that you would want their rxvt or kterm package (console program capable of Japanese), kinput2, canna. You will also need Japanese locales. Maybe they are at the Kondara site. Get their glibc2.1.3 RPM package or they may have a separate japanese-locale package. Or, try http://www.linuxi18n.org/ After you have them and installed them, you'll have to do a bit of setting. But refer to Craig's page above for that. As an editor, I'd suggest mgedit, also provided by the Kondara guys. There is a Japanized version of KEdit, but you'll have to gut out the whole KDE to do that, which is rather a drag. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Nomikai Meeting: June 16 (Fri), 19:00 Tengu TokyoEkiMae Next Technical Meeting: July 8 (Sat) 13:30 Topic: TBA -------------------------------------------------------------------- more info: http://www.tlug.gr.jp Sponsor: Global Online Japan
