Many entities that are running Linux are highly idealistic regarding the freedom of code/information. One could derive that because of Linuxs superior performance and unquestionable stability that it has attracted more profit minded individuals. Which are not so idealistic, and not as willing to take a stand for Linux. Granted mp3.com was merely hosting the song, and not intentionally looking for a fight like copyleft.net, but they still backed down. Does this reflect a change in the definition of the Linux community? Or am I just read too much into it? Why pick on MP3.com? I'm sure that the Hollywood studios that stood waiting to nail them for contributory copyright infringement have a few Linux servers of their own ticking away in the back room. More to the point, surely the free software community does not generally expect its members to prove their ideological credentials by going bankrupt on the way to jail. The community works because it is tied together more by common interest than by ideology. In my view, anyway. Cheers, Frank Bennett
