Directory tree lists

I'm trying to list a directory tree, for documentation.

"ls -Rd *" doesn't seem to do anything different to "ls -d *".

"du" is almost what I want, with some post-editing. But I wondered if
there are already any tools that use indenting, maybe even some ascii
art/html output?
