All done! Thanks Jonathan! >Makes me wonder if there >isn't some other DHCP server on that network and that's where >it's getting the address from, but...? Good idea but I don:t know how to check for that ;) And considering all the machines on the LAN are 98 ... >Only itself, I take it. Nothing else is pingable? Nope, I'm assuming this is because they are on different subnets. I have only really tried to ping .1-5 and .250-4 and 99-101. The WinMe ping is so slow that I don't want to ping too many addresses. > > > >2) Machines on the Internet > > > If I drop DHCP and give it an address of 192.168.0.211 I can ping the TA >at > > 192.168.0.1 but can't seem to ping other PC (If I start at 192.168.0.2) > >Do you go from 192.168.0.2 all the way to the end of the range and >get no answer from any of them? My mistake. If I hard set the IP I *can* ping the other machines. >So, the questions are: > >With a DHCP-assigned address can you: > >1) Ping anything on the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet? >2) Ping anything on the /24 subnet where the DHCP address is assigned? >3) Ping anything outside, such as 203.216.1.67? No to all three. >With an address manuually assigned in 192.168.0.0/24, can you: > >1) Ping anything on the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet? >2) Ping anything outside, such as 203.216.1.67? Yes. Luckily the TA here has a web interface believe it or not! From that I was able to get the DNS addresses and hard code those in,@example.com with a static ip and the default gateway (the TA). But that still leave me wondering when DHCP is on it gets such a weird address as 169.254.1.173 Anyway, that will teach me to try and help people who run Windows. Thanks! I how you a beer!
