XFree86 4.0.3 segfault problem...

OK so I haul a nice 19" Sun monitor over to my cube to test it.  I think, "I
can plug this into my laptop!" .. so, my laptop is sitting there at a
console shell prompt, (no X).  I plug in the monitor.  it's now displaying
on both flatpanel and the CRT.  I type 'startx'.

I get a SIGSEGV from the X server (XF86_Mach64).  Eh?  It's never done THAT
before... so I push FN-F7 and switch to external monitor only.  Segfault.
Flatpanel only?  Segfault.  Unplug the monitor.  no more segfault, even if I
put it in external or "both" mode.

what's up with this? 

Now...

I start up X with monitor disconnected.  Plug in monitor.  FN-F7 to display
on both, or external only.  Works FINE.  it's only at startup.

Is this some kind of broken Plug-and-play monitor detection code in XFree86
4.0.3?  I mean, give me an error message, sure, but a server SEGV?  uh-uh,
that's bad coding.
