Norman, Listen to yourself! > co-conspirator > maliciously damaging > evil empire Pointless inflamatory rhetoric. You're a text book case of why Linux gets a reputation as a fringe movement instead of a serious OS. It's a shame. > If buyers got a choice (blah blah blah) We do have a choice. What's most annoying is that if anyone refuses to make the choice in the way *you* would prefer, those people are wrong. You're arguing for freedom of choice, aren't you? OK. I write Java, it runs on Solaris, I develop on NT. My wife writes C and Java, it runs on mobile devices, she develops on NT. At home we use a home built, so no tying there, PC running 98. I have a laptop running NT. We also use Palm and Psion machines. Although we had a Linux machine at one point, it got shelved due to lack of space in our old apartment. Now we have space I'm in the process of building a new Linux machine out of an old Sun workstation. So, although we chose our careers and actively made choices about our home machines and OSs, to you we're in someway perpetuating an evil. Is this the case? Funny how IBM decided to comply. And tying, such as refusing to sell a computer unless the buyer contracts to buy an OS from the maker's co-conspirator -- in fact usually an excessively badly broken, maliciously damaging OS even when the buyer might be willing to tolerate a moderately broken, not particularly damaging OS from the same co-conspirator. Funny how makers don't decide to comply. Funny how an evil empire has so much control over dozens of makers. Funny how governments decide not enforce existing antitrust laws. Funny how governments decide not to enforce product liability laws. If buyers got a choice, just imagine how many Linux vendors would be able to afford to whip their products into top shape, and how many would have the incentive to do so. -- Norman Diamond ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Nomikai Meeting: Fri, June 15 19:30- Tengu Tokyo Eki-Mae Next Technical Meeting: Sat, July 14 13:30- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- more info: http://www.tlug.gr.jp Sponsor: Global Online Japan ___________________________________________________________ This message and any attachments (the "message") are intended solely for the addressees and are confidential.
