The command prompt is all you need. *SLAP* Shut up, Steve and Chris!

:-)

Is there anything at all in the directory? In particular, "X" and
"XFree86"?

If not, you need to install the various X packages from the CD-ROM.

Er, "find" is a power tool. Did you plug it in first? Wheeeng. :-)
Syntax is

find [space-separated list of directories] -name '[wildcard]'

And other more complex options. The user-friendly (and faster, it
keeps a database cache) interface is

			    locate [file]

Peter> After all, it *instantly* reports that it can't find the
Peter> file, without any disk accessing.

Yup. It knows that there is no directory /XF86Config, so no search
necessary. Does that make you feel any better? :-)

No, you're probably just too smart to use a "fool-proof" distro with
any success. :-þ Seriously, if the initial install doesn't work,
you're much better off with Debian, Slackware, or even Tom's RootBoot.
