possibly a big reason I've had so much success with laptops and linux is that I've bought laptops with the intent of running Linux, not bought the laptop and then later decided to put linux on it. ie, I did research before buying, on what laptops can and cannot run Linux well :) I realize, however, that not everyone has this luxury. I'll say this, though - Dell makes one hell of a laptop, and they use quality components in them, and they work with Linux well... ----------------------------------------------------- Scott M. My experiences with Thinkpads has been terrific. Light, cool, and extremely reliable. Also, you can get B5-sized Thinkpads that have full-sized keys (we have a Thinkpad 240 at work and it's very easy to type on). You probably already know about the Linux-on-Laptops site, but this is the place to go to check others' experience with installing on a given model before you buy it: http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ > That certainly sounds more cheering!
