here is the way I repaired from this sort of thing boot from a setup cdrom, at the shell prompt do the following mount /dev/hda1 /mnt (swap /dev/hda1 for the root device on your system) cp /vmlinuz /mnt/vmlinuz chroot /mnt lilo reboot this should effectivly bring everything back. you may also want to check that your root partition is ok and maybe a few other things.
