Well, if you're unwilling to edit conf files, I suppose you can call
Red Hat support.... They're _your_ files. cp printcap printcap.bak
and you've nothing to lose but your chains.

Eric> # DO NOT EDIT! MANUAL CHANGES WILL BE LOST!

This means that if you edit this file, you'll have to do it again
someday, that's all. But now you know how.

Eric> # This file is autogenerated by printconf-backend during lpd init.

And probably you don't even have to update your software to get the
default config back. Just reboot or restart lpd. (Can't promise, but
that's what this looks like.)

Eric> # Hand edited changes can be put in /etc/printcap.local, and
    Eric> # will be included.

I can't tell what this means without reading Red Hat's man pages. I
think you have to move the whole entry to /etc/printcap.local. A bit
risky.

So go ahead ... edit /etc/printcap and add "mc=10" to get 10 copies
allowed. Do it EXACTLY as in the second line below. Check whether
those are tabs or spaces in the neighboring lines (AFAIK only make
and Python ever care, but why not be safe)?

dj720c:\
        :mc=10:\
        :ml=0:\
        :mx=0:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/dj720c:\
        :af=/var/spool/lpd/dj720c/dj720c.acct:\
        :sh:\
        :lp=/dev/lp0:\
        :lpd_bounce=true:\
        :if=/usr/share/printconf/util/mf_wrapper:

Eric> "He is able who thinks he is able."

Don't put anything in your .sig you don't believe. ;-)
