I tried your suggestion of fsck it did fixed some it issues.
I am still struggling with the everlasting directory.
I named dammed so it's properties shows as /home/eoflores/Desktop
when I right click and try to delete I get a dialog indicating that such
directory can not be removed.

any other tip you can recommend?
