I can't help with the ATOK issue, but I can give a bit of guidance with respect to config files. Don't worry too much about experimentation, just make a backup copy of the file first. You can always return to your previous configuration if things don't work. This approach works even with fundamental boot files like /etc/fstab. If you have a boot floppy and a backup of the file, you can usually get yourself out of any problem you got yourself into. The traditional Unix config method has its disadvantages (many scattered cryptic config files), but after you get the hang of things, it can be quite nice.
