actually, the problem with Shift-JIS turned out to be an issue with a poorly written Java client. CVS itself handles Shift-JIS just fine. you can flag particular filename patterns as binary via the cvswrappers file: http://cvsbook.red-bean.com/cvsbook.html#The_cvswrappers_FileAttachment: signature.asc
