thank you Jim now I will try again to download pictures in linux with the instructions you showed. I couldn't do it by myself. Martin :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim O'Connell" <oconnell@example.com> To: <tlug@example.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 8:27 PM Subject: Re: [tlug] Digital Camera Choices: Canon IXY 320 ? The majority of digital cameras just act as USB hard drives - For mine, I made a mountpoint mkdir /mnt/cam Then added the line: /dev/sda1 /mn/cam vfat rw,auto, user, exec 0 0 to /etc/fstab then just mount it as needed I'd just really focus (heh.) on the quality of the camera - I doubt you'll have any unresolvable issues with Linux. My friend has the Digital IXY and seems to take very nice pics with it - I have a Fuji FinePix 40i that's served me well the last few years. I do prefer the CF media to the SmartMedia that the Fuji uses - the slight additional bulk seems to make them a bit harder to lose... As to your other point about the camera's file types - I'm pretty sure they're all Jpeg now. Way back when, the Kodak Dc-120 (and others) used a proprietary format. The earliest Casios used one that was like a funky stretched Jpeg, IIRC. I hope she enjoys it!
