However, you have some control over where kinput2 pops up with X resources: there is over-the-spot, on-the-spot, off-the-spot, and root window input ... the only way I can really describe them is to quote the man page at you, so you might as well go read it for yourself. However, my ~/.Xresources has the following--as I recall I cut and pasted it all from some newsgroup post in the distant past, then changed a few lines until it worked reasonably well: *OverTheSpotConversion.AutoSpotForwarding: true *OverTheSpotConversion.ShrinkWindow: true *OverTheSpotConversion.modeLocation: tracktext !*OverTheSpotConversion.modeLocation: bottomleft *OverTheSpotConversion*modeShell.input: false *OverTheSpotConversion*modeShell.allowShellResize: true *OverTheSpotConversion*text.borderWidth: 0 *OverTheSpotConversion*modeShell.borderWidth: 2 ! off-the-spot type input *OffTheSpotConversion.input: false *OffTheSpotConversion*modeShell.borderWidth: 0 *OffTheSpotConversion.text.borderWidth: 0 ! root-window type input *SeparateConversion*form*vertDistance: 3 *SeparateConversion*mode.left: chainleft *SeparateConversion*mode.right: chainleft *SeparateConversion*mode.top: chaintop *SeparateConversion*mode.bottom: chaintop *SeparateConversion*mode.width: 80 *SeparateConversion*mode.height: 20 *SeparateConversion*mode.resizable: true *SeparateConversion*text.fromVert: mode *SeparateConversion*text.left: chainleft *SeparateConversion*text.right: chainright *SeparateConversion*text.top: chaintop *SeparateConversion*text.bottom: chainbottom *SeparateConversion*text.width: 400 *SeparateConversion*text.height: 100 ! status display string justification -- for over-the-spot and off-the-spot ! "left" seems appropriate for most applications. Kinput2*modeShell.mode.justify: left Then in some cases you can also specify one of the input styles on a per-application basis, e.g. *KTerm*preeditType: OverTheSpot Hope that helps a bit. > $B$=$s$J$*CcL\$5$s$K$OH3%2!<%`@example.com}%Q%s%D==J,!*(B So what does it mean? 'Fraid my Japanese slang is a bit out-of-date.
