- Subject: [tlug] Keyboard lockup problem on Debian-Dell install
Since I pretty much got my answer on the Debian Users list to the question I raised yesterday regarding the freeze in my keyboard when installing Woody BF24 on my Dell Dimension XPS 8250, I'll just note it here. Five people responded who had exactly the same problem with relatively new Dell Inspirons and Dimensions. None of them were able to resolve the problem via a standard Debian install. They all resolved it by the Knoppix route, and similar methods. There was also some discussion about the relationship between MEPIS and Knoppix which confirmed what I thought: If you install Debian with Knoppix, you can subsequently do any sort of Debian apt-get things without worry, because the Knopper doesn't redo the kernel. With MEPIS, you can't do a dist-upgrade, or plain upgrade, because of things that are linked to the kernel.
