I've had the experience of living and working in Japan so that may not be the most driving factor. (Don't misinterpret this though, I fell in love with Tokyo and would love to go back :) The earlier thread about Redhat's demise has prompted me to this post and because I get the feeling that the first career oriented job you get is important. Of course I could be wrong. While in Japan, I had the unfortunate experience of working for Nova. If I had done my research I would have easily found out that Nova has a bad reputation. I'd like to avoid making the same mistake. > Work? YMMV. The really important issue is your supervisor and the > other people in your group. Good people are where you find them. I guess that's hard to get good feeling for before you actually start working. > Looking at the fact that Toyota and SONY spend 50% of their R&D > budgets in California, and extrapolating from the comments of the > (mostly) Tsukuba-based researchers I know, I would say the odds favor > Toronto. NB: none of this is computer science-specific. Sorry to all if this is off-topic. Thanks for your thoughts, Ben
