- Subject: [tlug] Network Video Playback Hardware
Is anyone aware of Video Playback devices that get the movies from a network share (eg: SMB). There seems to be a few "Media Players" available in Akiba, but they look slightly dodgy, and I think often require a streaming (windows) server. Basic setup is Plasma TV & Small Linux Cube running Samba with Films and Music. I want to play movies to Plasma which are stored on the Cube, via LAN. Codecs should be DivX, MPEG1+2+3+4, XVid, etc ... and - yes also a PAL/NTSC converter should be built in, and preferably digital Audio output. P.S. The cube used to be in the living room directly attached. Alas the TV quality sucked, the noise was to high and now its not baby safe anymore. P.P.S. The apple cube seems to have a too weak processor for some codecs, and the Video out is also dissapointing according to some tests. -- Patrick Niessen
