That's human nature; if it's possible to abuse it, it will be abused. That's why Rosie Palm is always red, no? The whole point of "the invisible hand" is that in the long run abuse is self-punishing. While there are reasons to suppose the most optimistic versions of the Invisible Hand Theorem fail in the case of intellectual assets, it's still very powerful. Think about the fact that in the New York Times 99% of the new facts are concentrated in about 4 pages of financial market listings, while the other 50 pages or so of news concentrates on the 1% of the time things don't work so well (of course, most of that is politics ;-). Josh> then I could satisfy my cravings for crappy, throw-away pop Josh> tunes without spending more money than said tunes are Josh> worth. Well, you can experience that here in Japan. The equivalent to the Billboard Magazine pop rankings is based on pay-per-play plays over the telephone, I believe. At a few tens of yen per play you're still paying more than it's worth, though. ;-) -- School of Systems and Information Engineering http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Ask not how you can "do" free software business; ask what your business can "do for" free software.
