There are bunch of documents on the web about Japanese input stuff (some
written by tlug members). 
The list above is nowhere near complete. You could use iiimf, scim, im-ja
etc to input Japanese, some of which are more user friendly then the
above (e.g. you don't need to be a lisp guru to change your settings)
The limiting factor for you is available packages for SuSE. Rpmfind
suggests SuSE is lacking many.
Since Mozilla supports gtk input modules, most of the above mentioned
tools should work.
