Hm, for me seems overwork to install first ubuntu (Gnome) and then to
reinstall everything to get KDE. Maybe better is to use the way
described here (Xubuntu, but easy to be done for Kubuntu too): [

Xubuntu a try ;) It's small, fast and very clean environment (XFce4
based).
