Hi Josh, You wrote: > sox "The Toasters - Don't Let the Bastards Grind You Down.mp3" \ > "The Toasters - Don't Let the Bastards Grind You Down_sample.mp3" \ > trim 0:25.0 0:35.0 Thanks for example. I _love_ examples. > This example will take 35 seconds of audio, starting 25 seconds from > the beginning of "The Toasters - Don't Let the Bastards Grind You > Down.mp3", and save it to "The Toasters - Don't Let the Bastards Grind > You Down_sample.mp3". How do you know exactly where to snip the excerpt? Unless there's something I'm missing, the command line approach requires cumbersome trial and error to figure out exactly what to extract. Audacity allows to me to see the waveform, so that I can make a much better initial guess where to cut, and also allows me to very quickly preview me selection. I'm a big command line bigot, but there some things are just better done with GUIs. I extracted about 1000 snippets from recordings early last year with Audacity. Each snippet was usually editted to resolution of about 10ms at each end. It's hard to imagine doing that with a command line tool. Jim
