[tlug] Ubuntu/Kubuntu 510 Log

I mentioned before having sporadic trouble with the mouse under
Kubuntu, but after thinking about it a bit, I realized a couple of
things:

1) The very first thing I tried out with my "new" Fujitsu FMV-6667-CL5
test machine was Ubuntu, so I have no other OS experience on that
machine to compare it with.

2) (And this is the more important one) - I had forgotten (it *was*
several years ago), but I had similar trouble with the infamous Dell
Dimension C computers I was running on the same KVM switch before...
which was cleared up by running them through an older two-machine KVM
switch and an old spare monitor.

I have no idea why - but I imagine that the less robust power supplies
might have something to do with it? Both the Dell Dimension-C and the
Fujitsu FMV-6667 are micro-towers with smaller than usual power
supplies. That alone wouldn't suggest anything, except that the
problem is very rare when one of the more robust OptiPlex boxes are
also running - which help power the KVM switch, and the problem (other
than an occasional boot-up recognition of mouse issue) doesn't occur
at all with the OptiPlex machines.

The solution is probably to get an AC adaptor for the KVM switch (it
has an input for one although it didn't come with one when bought
new).

As for more details about the nature of the problem - I'll suddenly
have weird things happening on screen (several text boxes opening up,
windows minimize, etc.) when I move the mouse - as though the computer
is confusing moue input for keyboard shortcuts or something. It's
the same thing that happened with the infamous C's before.

Incidentally, I'm back to Kubuntu, realizing that I really do prefer
to KDE to to Gnome.
