If he trashes his kernel *before* he next runs make-kpkg, and restores from the .deb, he *may* "lose" those modules in a confusing way (ie, the kernel will bitch about non-matching checksums which he tries to modprobe them, although he knows he's got a good .deb that used to work fine). 2. If and when he does dpkg -remove kernel-image-2.6.17.7, he'll get a "can't remove /lib/modules/2.6.17.7/kernel/drivers/: directory not empty" warning. 3. If he does a make-kpkg right now, he probably doesn't even have to install the .deb for everything to be OK. Am I missing something disastrous?
