Back when Adaptec was king of SCSI controllers, they were known 
for not being open with information about how to use their 
hardware, and the Linux drivers suffered, and so Adaptec 
SCSI controllers earned a bit of a bad reputation for use under 
Linux. 

Hopefully they have gotten the open-source religion. 
Do your due diligence. Strutinize the openness of 
any hardware RAID board drivers.
