A note of thanks to the fellas who responded to my query on LAN access 
at my institution. The information provided, along with a read-through 
of the samba documentation, enabled me to set this up faster than I 
expected. I made the connection both from the command line and in the 
Konqueror openfile window, put the link in FSTAB, and even got some 
rsync cron jobs running (which was, after all, the real goal).
