When one does xorgconfig, the via driver isn't listed. It's a bit of a nuisance, and I confess, I found it out by doing X -configure, which I always consider laziness.
Sure, it is lazy to do:
sudo X -configure X -XF86config xorg.conf.new # tweak resolution and colour depth if ya wanna sudo cp xorg.cong.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf startx
However, as Larry Wall points out, laziness is a virtue.
In FreeBSD, I'm able to get this information with pciconf -lv. I think there's something quite similar in Linux, but I seem to have forgotten what it's called.
