That is requirement #1 in most cases, unless you are a TOTAL masochist. Potential masochistic tendencies is number two. I use xubuntu, and like it, but I think Gentoo is great too. I love the concept of a source based distro. ^_^ Xubuntu is nice (assuming you don't run into the video glitch). It is streamlined, and will run smooth on a lot of the older hardware. :-) Also, I have seen cases where the 32 bit version detected everything fine, and the 64 bit version had issues, so unless you need the extra umf that you might get out of a 64 bit install, you won't notice much difference. ^_^
