Remember B1FF may be a troll, but biff(1) (the original program for keeping track of your marbles so you don't have to) goes back probably 30 years. What that means is that you have to figure out what you want, and find it for yourself. Partly that's due to inability to agree on defaults (except to copy CUA or Aqua, barf, retch, "find /usr -name '*gnome*' | xargs rm -rf"); partly due to lack of marketing. But it's all out there. You can put your pagers and calendars and mixers and system monitors in the panel or slot or whatever your wm-du-jour calls it, or have them bound to popup menus, etc.
