For example if latency is a big issue in your application and you are trying to serve an audience in Japan, EC2 has the limitation that the whole infrastructure is sitting somewhere in the US (perhaps Area 51?) which means you need to take into account round-trip times. If EC2 comes to Asia, then things will become quite interesting indeed although there are many providers now trying to provide something similar to EC2 in Japan now so the market is definitely heating up.
