A word of advice to those contemplating traveling THAT far by train.
The Shinkensen does not cost that much more than regular train fair. The main difference is the fee for seat reservation. (Yes, you still have to pay the reservation fee, even if you buy the ticket ten minutes before the train leaves. hehehe :P)
Yeahbutt, you missed the point that the shinkansen gets you there in plenty of time to need to go to several expensive restaurants and it doesn't run at night, so you have to stay in a hotel. We're talking total wallet load versus the component pricing.
