Happy New Year, I need an electronic dictionary with Kanji (handwriting - wrong stroke order acceptable) recognition. Usability and entry quality are the main factors - so am thinking about whether a small handheld with limited screen size makes up for it in portability. It'd be fun (and useful enough to justify the cost) to have a tablet pc if I could get it set up nicely. The user is my six year old and myself. I've considered: 1) Casio Electronic Dictionary XD-GW6900 http://www.jbox.com/PRODUCT/GW6900 big plus - shows correct kanji stroke order plus - battery -- 130 hours (60 hours using backlight) plus - dictionaries galore plus - Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary (add on card) minus - superjump is by key and not stylus minus - kanji entry pad looks small (haven't tried it but it looks as though where you entry the kanji is not the screen where the line will appear -- am worried this would be difficult for my child who has difficulty writing [or would it be good practice in disguise]) 2) zaurus http://zaurus.biojapan.de/ Does anyone have info on this site? It's linked to from the Tlug home page. minus - list of dictionaries looks more limited minus - battery life 3) Dell X50V PDA http://www.japaneselanguagetools.com/complete.html Plus - super jump by using the stylus plus - list of verb conjugations minus battery life big minus- windows CE 4) other touch screen laptops such as the new dell xt or something that would run linux. Any suggestions? Shawn
