You can find out what the /dev node is by: sudo tail -f /var/log/messages # insert the USB device # look for a /dev/sd? entry > Partly because I now realize that /dev/sdd seems to be there all the time, > regardless of whether or not I have an SD card or USB drive or anything > inserted. That would make sense. My card reader grabs sda-sdd on insert, since it has four card slots. When you insert a card, partitions show up, like /dev/sda1. Try tailing /var/log/messages as described above when inserting a card. See if you can tell which device it becomes. Then run "sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdd" (changing sdd to whatever the device node actually is). -- Cheers, Josh
