Kubuntu recognizes the X1300 chip on my desktop model even though I 
don't currently use it, and it has offered me the option of enabling or 
disabling the driver and full flgrx support on demand.  Since the chip 
in question is on a first generation PCI card made by a maker I'd never 
heard of before acquiring the box, I switched to the on board Intel 
865.  Although, part of that may also be that the WIN "extras" disk I 
got with the card was so full of trojans and rootkits that I wondered 
about the wisdom of even running the card at all. 

It also does Japanese.  It installs SCIM when you select the language 
right from the Regionalization menus.  I don't have it running to my 
satisfaction, but the problem is mine and not Kubuntu's.  YMMV.
