Have you looked into the "Asian Text Layout" features of any of the word processors? I know that WordPerfect and a couple of others had a feature that allowed you to print out in genko style in the "one character centered in each box of the red grid" way ... like Japanese legal documents used to have to be. Just about every one I ever saw printed out for reading top-to-bottom; right-to-left. Perhaps (and, no, I don't know the answer) there is still some emulator for that typographic style? And, is it the kind of thing you are looking for?
