The file manager is Part of the Problem!Oh, jeeze ... another FM I have to R ...Try this magic spell from Terminal: rm -f <TRASH>/gnash-dbg.log # Om mame padme hum Hail Mary full of Grace Hear O Israel the Lord .... where <TRASH> is the path to the trash directory (it's probably something like ~/.trash). If that doesn't work, try it again as root.So ... the incense sticks, bowl of salt, bottle of sake, and bowl of rice are not necessary, you're saying? I let the goat and chicken go when I realized it wasn't network related. I didn't really want to sharpen so many knives for just one PC, anyway.BTW, trash is located at place deep in the tree. Does the "~/.trash" syntax enable me to not have to type out the full path ... like I kept doing? Having a background in programming tools that require full paths and addresses is looking more and more like a complete disadvantage ...> I want my desktop back ... "The doctor said, 'Don't do that.'"The list of Frank Zappa quotations appropriate to this situation is just too long ...---------- All,This is me from my desktop. My laptop has returned to backup duty. Sorry about that miscue at the beginning of my panic attack. I like to pride myself on Not Being Seen ("Mister CL Stand.Up.Please ... Mister CL has learned the first rule of Not Being Seen; Not Standing Up.") so, when things went Badly Wrong (tm) I immediately suspected that I'd been seen and hacked thanks to one of those nasty features in the new Firefox that they had to patch so quickly.Fortunately, it was a runaway process. Having a history in COBOL, I know all about these. They are a fact of a previous life. No worse than beating yourself over the head with a meat axe.I ended up using Stuart L.'s suggested incantation while in command line mode. After that, I had to re-start once in repair mode and then everything came back up as it had been Saturday evening. However, there are also another 100Gb of "things" that are not there any more. Since everything I normally use is running right I am ASS-uming that they were links to things that I really don't need.As far as the rest ... I learned that some syntax I had learned with other languages was misspelled when trying to speak to Debian. Different word order and different spellings. Thanks to all who helped. That's a lot more beer I owe people. -- CL
