You need to keep a copy of the Windows MBR. You need to setup grub to recognize both windows and Linux installs. You could do this using a Linux boot CD, but if you are squeamish about dealing with grub, you might be better to reinstall Ubuntu and let it setup grub. Maybe someone using Ubuntu could advise.
