I hear you on that. I was appalled to notice on a recent trip to some
shops in Akihabara that some of them had stickers on five-year old
computers saying that they were (from memory - I think this was the
exact wording though): "Certified Microsoft Refurbished". Which would
suggest that our dear friend MS has been terrorizing shops selling
used equipment - getting them to go along with the MS tax even on old
junk used machines!

I'm glad you sent this. I've bought BTO machines from both DOS Para
and Faith, and I was much happier with the service for and quality of
the machines I got from Faith. The walk-in shop I used to go to
disappeared however, so I'm happy to see that they haven't vanished
into thin air, but just have moved (or closed a branch?). According

I've never bought an OS-less laptop before. I'd certainly be
interested in doing so however. The last Lenovo laptop I bought
included the MS tax, and so that money was wasted when I reformatted
the hard drive and put in a proper OS (Linux).
