I use rsync.
My main box runs desktoplike most evenings and weekends.
Whenever it is switched on it hourly updates a local directory with
the contents of my dedicated server via rsync (the important places,
wiki directory, /etc, userhome).
My laptops are not running that often, but when they do and are on the
home network they hourly update a copy of their important directories
onto the main box, again with rsync.
