AFAICT they've decided to try to push further into the "rest of us"
market by putting a larger share of their resources into next
generation desktops (the software, I mean) and handheld-oriented
distributions.

My Ubuntu-based colleagues certainly don't seem to lack for work or
for financial support for that work, etc.
