Re: [tlug] Japan Phone experts?

I may have that experience in 6 weeks… Hope to move from Softbank with my number to another carrier, and (so far) Asahi-net is in the lead.

IIJMO was mentioned which looks very comparable to Asahi-net, and the English (+TLUG) support, should I need it, is pure icing on the cake.

Years ago when moving away from long-distance dialling in to GOL to access points closer down the Tokaido line to me, I had good service with Asahi-net… then SCN cable internet came to town so goodbye Asahi-net… Good (enough) service back almost 20 years ago, in English, and no bad experiences I recall after initial setup/teething issues.

By end of October I hope to be using their basic plan SIM. It looks more than adequate for my JP needs as I am pretty sure my mobile data will be under 3gb/mo, SMS use is nil (though international charges there look astronomical), and some months I may -hopefully!- incur no outgoing phone calls. Goodbye ¥6-7000 Softbank charges, hello ~¥2000.

Does anybody have any experience with ASAHI Net's ANSIM service?[1]
I've been thinking about moving off DoCoMo for a while now because,
though I've been a customer for well over fifteen years now, it's
really just starting to feel too expensive compared to these other
plans (and I'm already down to the 2 GB/month data plan on DoCoMo.)

For me, one of the key selling points is English support. It also
helps that they're a supporter of TLUG. :-)
