I didn't use X-windows at first either. I only had 8 megs of
ram and it was using disk swap way too much. The first thing that
converted me was Seyon, the communications program. The next thing was
the ability to open multiple winoows with scroll capability. The thing
that switched me was Xview and Mosaic. Graphics need X-windows.
For straight coding, I really do not like to use X-Windows and rely on
the virtual text console with nice big white characters and a FAST
refresh time. Vi and emacs are powerful enough to handle almost
any text processing job. But for graphics, Xwindows is very nice.
