Form: Reply Header: Adaptec Text: (9 lines follow) Rentals of Sparcs in Japan are similarly outrageous. We're renting a SS20/61 for 1/3rd the price of a new one in the US, this is for 1 month! I bought a SS5/70 a year ago and shipped it here, for one third the price a SS5/50 goes for here. The rental places here won't just rent a CPU, we have to rent the redundant large monitor as well. Red Hat will also be releasing SPARCLinux soon. Both the sparclinux and linux-alpha mailing lists at vger.rutgers.edu are modestly active. I still haven't decided which one I should theoretically get to counter Craig's theoretical Power PC. :-) I also hadn't realized how cheap used Sparc machines were in the US and Europe.
