Emacs interaction on DEC-20 circa 1980:

User types:	^[^[
User thinks:	"Oh, shit, a minibuffer.  TECO!  Aaaargh!!!  Cancel!"
User types:	^G^G^G
User thinks:	"Damn, it's not working!  Cancel harder!!"
User types:	^G^G^G^G^G^G^G^G^G
Emacs responds:	Ding!  "I see.  Can't hack buffers, can you!  HAHAHAHA!"

Emacs-LISP is much easier to deal with.  Really.  It is.  I do miss
the days when an entire editor written in TECO was a string shorter
than many Emacs-LISP variable names, though....

Went and did "Info emacs faces", suggesting "M-X list-faces-display".
One look at that and "fgrep 'temp-face' /usr/local/src/w3-2.2.26/*.el"
is the obvious next step.  That led to the code fragment

  (if (not w3-user-colors-take-precedence)
      (let* ((vlink (cdr-safe (assq 'vlink args)))
	     (alink (cdr-safe (assq 'alink args)))
	     (link (cdr-safe (assq 'link args)))

Aha!  In my "TWICS" buffer, just

ESC ESC (setq 'w3-user-colors-take-precedence t) RET
o RET n

("o RET n" does a reload), and vi\'ol\`a!  Visible links.

It's in my .emacs now....

By the way, Emacs-W3 3.0.23 did *not* compile properly on my machine.
There seem to be problems with backquote syntax :-(  Maybe it's time
to try to upgrade my Mule (to an Ass?)
