My Dennis> blunder was trying to edit to info-presented menu Dennis> directly, rather than the file "dir" itself. (Of course, Dennis> what _really_ made the difference is that this time I used Dennis> 'vi' to do the edit ;-) :-) :-) At least on my system, Mule isn't smart enough to figure out that /usr/local/info/dir is an info file---"mule /usr/local/info/dir" works fine when I'm root (on the other hand, mule *does* recognize RMail files, and goes into RMail mode automagically when an RMail file is edited). You can (if you have write permission) edit info nodes from inside of Emacs Info by typing "e". You may have to do ESC ESC "(setq Info-enable-edit t)" RET first to enable editing. Emacs isn't the solution to everything, but there's a tendency to want to use something that takes up 68.71% of your disk space.... ;-) -- Stephen John Turnbull University of Tsukuba Yaseppochi-Gumi Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/ Tennodai 1-1-1, Tsukuba, 305 JAPAN turnbull@example.com ----------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor will appear below ----------------------------------------------------------------- The TLUG mailing list is proudly sponsored by TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System.
