-------------------------------------------------------- tlug note from Jim Tittsler <jwt@example.com> -------------------------------------------------------- Hello Tomo, I didn't see an answer go by for this one, so I'll take an only partially informed stab at it. =?iso-2022-jp?B?GyRCPVBAbkNSNSobKEo=?= writes: > I install Slackware Linux Version 3.0 > Kernel Ver 2.0.0 > I thought When I first turn on the computer and login as root. > I should login console instead of tty1. The "console" is used during the initial boot process. When Linux enters multi-user mode, init starts a number of getty tasks, each connected to one of the virtual consoles. In this non-X mode, you can typically switch between a number of virtual consoles with the Alt-Fn keys (often with 5 or 6 of them set up by default). > I don't have a file name called console at /dev That I can't explain. I do on all my machines, and it gets written to at boot time before the virtual screens are initialized. > Boot message said > VFS: Mounted root (ext3 filesystem) readonly > Is it supposed to be like this "Readonly"? The filesystems are frequently mounted initially in read-only mode before they are checked for consistency. After verifying they are "clean" they will be remounted read/write. (And I suspect you meant ext2, which is the most common of the "native" filesystems supported by Linux.) -- Jim Tittsler, Tokyo 7j1ajh@example.com http://shrine.cyber.ad.jp/~jwt/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor will appear below ----------------------------------------------------------------- The TLUG mailing list is proudly sponsored by TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System.
