This is true, but it doesn't seem to work for the Japanese version of the machine. I'm just trying to get it to work normally; I'm not even up to the Nihongo end of things yet! >> I've not been able to get anything other than ascii out of it, >> not counting lots of pages of un-interpreted postscript files! >> I've been trying apsfilter-491. Taking plain ASCII and turning it into PostScript? It's supposed to take the various filters that are in the system (dvi, gs, etc.) and make them work for the given printer. Seems to me that HP-Japan altered something in the printer to make it not work as a US-model would. I went with HP under the illusion that it should be easy to support under Linux. Sigh... All I get is junk across the top few lines of a page, which continues if I don't turn off the printer. >You probably want GhostScript (and you'll want to review the >archives for the long string of messages that Steve and Craig >exchanged about how to do Japanese successfully) as the filter. >It is capable of taking PostScript and spitting out HP PCL which >your printer can understand. > >Probably. :-) Still no luck here. More reading time involved to find some kind of hack I guess. :-( David Riley Hachinohe Institute of Technology 88-1, Myo, Ohbiraki Hachinohe-shi Aomori-ken 031 ----------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor will appear below ----------------------------------------------------------------- The TLUG mailing list is proudly sponsored by TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System.
