-------------------------------------------------------- tlug note from craig@example.com -------------------------------------------------------- At the last TLUG meeting, the idea of a dinner meeting on the 2nd Thursday, every 2nd month was brought up. If we follow this, the 2nd Thursday in July is July 10. Does anyone want to meet and if so where is a good place. I'm thinking that someplace near Tokyo station, Yurakucho, or Ginza might be good since Joe Marchak, Andy Howell, and I think John Little are in that area. I'm in Yotsuya. ------- Re: 8 bit versus 7 bit encoding 日本語テストです。 For Japanese, I've been sending messages with Content Type of Text/Plain; charset=iso-2022-jp with Content Transfer Encoding set to 7 bit. The Mew documentation says that iso-2022-jp should use 7 bit Content Transfer Encoding. However, I've noticed that my Japanese gets mangled. I'm sending this one as 8 bit, to see what will happen. I've heard two different opinions regarding iso-2022-jp and Transfer-Encoding. One side says that Japanese should always be transmitted at 8 bit. The other side says that iso-2022-jp should be transmitted as 7 bit. What is the correct Transfer-Encoding for iso-2022-jp? ----------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor will appear below ----------------------------------------------------------------- The TLUG mailing list is proudly sponsored by TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System.
