I have fiddled with all sorts of things and at last I've found out one fact. And that is so simple that I look like a simple BAKA. When a network doesn't use DNS, such as a wee network at home, the sendmail should be linked to sendmail.nomx, not to sendmail.mx. That is that! And if necessary, sendmail.cf should be customized, but in my case it was not necessary. Now I am all right. I was planning to come to the next tlug meeting. But unfortunately I broke my leg the other day in an incredible accident. I could walk with crutches but very slow. So perhaps the next time.
